Biggest Cruise Ship in the World Announced by MSC Cruises

MSC World Europa will feature 13 dining venues, including six specialty restaurants and three ample restaurant buffets on board, including a brand-new location open 24/7. MSC Cruises currently has three new cruise ships on order — all sister vessels to the line's new MSC World Europa. The first to arrive will be MSC World America in 2025, which is scheduled to be deployed in Florida. Two more of the so-called World-class vessels are scheduled for completion in 2026 and 2027.

MSC Seaside

The ship has distinct neighborhoods for adults, entertainment, and families, spaces to appeal to all types of cruisers. MSC World Europa is a significant departure from the look and feel of other MSC cruise ships. Its revolutionary structure is Y-shaped in design and has a bow like an arrow. Again, the company can bring some incredible experiences to guests with the MSC World Europa built by the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire. Currently, the brand has 21 cruise vessels, from the 65,000-ton MSC Armonia to the new 215,000-ton mega ship MSC World Europa. In many cases, they also have had entire eateries and bars renovated over the years with concepts that first debuted on newer vessels.

What Is the Difference Between Princess and Norwegian Cruise Lines?

Lirica-class ships are the smallest in MSC Cruises’ fleet and, as such, they’re a little more lacking in terms of amenities and fun. You’ll find that most cruisers are more interested in spending time off the ship, during their itineraries, than enjoying everything the ship has to offer. The Seaside and Seaside EVO ships were built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, Italy – one of the biggest cruise shipbuilders based in the Mediterranean. Norwegian Encore is a slightly bigger version of three other Breakaway-Plus class ships that Norwegian has unveiled since 2015 (thanks to a small addition at its back to make room for the laser tag area).

Reviews and Testimonials From Passengers Who Have Sailed on MSC Seaside

In short, the new MSC World Europa is like a giant floating version of the megaresorts you find in the Orlando area or Las Vegas, and it appeals to people who like a megaresort experience. The newest MSC Cruises ships are particularly known for being bustling, activity-packed ships. When Renaissance Cruises withdrew their order for Mistral, though, Festival Cruises took the order over and added two more ships to it … and then went bankrupt.

MSC Armonia and three other similar sisters in the MSC Cruises fleet (known as the Lirica class of ships) don't have the big water parks that are common on newer MSC Cruises ships. For the most part, their top decks are lined with pools, whirlpools and sunning areas, as is typical for ships built in the early 2000s. In fact, if you’re looking at MSC cruise ships overall, the Seaside class offers more outdoor space per passenger than any of the other ships in the MSC fleet. Amenities typically include two pools, a handful of restaurants and multiple entertainment spaces such as a theater and casino.

Cruises in the Mediterranean will offer calls to Genoa and Messina, Italy; Barcelona, Spain; Marseille, France; and Valetta, Malta. The line until now has resisted the trend among major brands to build ever-bigger vessels. MSC Cruises finally celebrates the naming of its second Meraviglia-Plus class cruise ship MSC Virtuosa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With a massive 250,800 gross tonnage (GT), this ship will surpass the size of the Wonder of the Seas.

Which MSC Cruises Ship Is the Biggest?

In all, MSC World Europa will measure about 205,000 tons — about 10% less than the five Royal Caribbean ships, known as the Oasis class. MSC World Europa will surpass MSC Grandiosa as the largest ship in the fleet. The latest in the Meraviglia class of ships, MSC Grandiosa and her sister ships, solidified MSC's entry into the realm of mega-ships, a competitive marketplace. To top it all off, MSC World Europa will feature the longest dry slide at sea, The Spiral, spanning a massive 11 decks high. The slide will not only be a feature that many guests will enjoy; it looks like a work of art on the ship’s renderings. MSC Cruises has revealed its largest ever cruise ship, MSC World Europa including new features and innovations.

Both MSC Sinfonia and MSC Armonia are the smallest MSC cruise ships in terms of GRT (Tonnage) but MSC Armonia actually carries 26 passengers less, at 2,520 max capacity. Since 1989, MSC Cruises has built a formidable fleet of cruise ships, with the last few years adding several brand new ships per year on average and an order book with many more lined up. In addition, MSC World Europa has 13 dining venues, including the new-for-the-line Chef's Garden Kitchen (an outlet focused on microgreens) and La Pescaderia, a traditional seafood grill with alfresco seating. In a twist, the ship has three separate buffet restaurants, each with its own ambiance. On the biggest MSC Cruises ship, MSC World Europa, you'll find an almost unbelievable number of pools and hot tubs (six and 14, respectively).

This impressive growth demonstrates the companys commitment to providing unparalleled cruising experiences to passengers from various regions around the world. With homeports in Europe, North America, the Caribbean, South America, the Middle East, and more, MSC offers a wide range of destinations for travelers to choose from. While some travelers enjoy the vast array of activities and options that come with larger ships, others prefer the more intimate and cozy experience of smaller vessels. Fortunately, there are cruise ships of all sizes available to cater to different preferences.

Newer MSC Cruises ships are generally bigger than older MSC Cruises ships — sometimes much bigger. As a result, they have room for a lot more onboard venues and attractions than the line's older vessels. It'll be made up of at least four vessels, only the first of which (MSC World Europa) is already sailing. In addition to the above, MSC Group — the line's parent company — has announced plans for yet another class of big MSC Cruises ships to start arriving later this decade, though few details have been released. MSC Group is also developing a series of small luxury vessels that'll operate under a separate brand to be called Explora Journeys.

Explora Journeys offers a more intimate and laid-back cruise experience. The line’s first ship, Explora I, comes in at just 63,900 gross tons with a capacity for 922 guests. MSC Armonia is the oldest ship in the current MSC Cruises fleet with a guest capacity of 2,087 and a size of 58,174 gross tons. The ship was originally built in 2001 for Festival Cruises as MS European Vision, but was sold to MSC and began sailing with the line in 2004. MSC Musica launched in July 2006 as the first ship in MSC’s Musica class. Like MSC Orchestra, the ship holds 2,550 guests and comes in at 92,409 gross tons.

Each ship can accommodate between 2,520 and 6,762 passengers over 13 to 21 decks. The passenger number is based on how many passengers each cruise ship can accommodate at maximum occupancy. MSC’s first World-class ship will be joined by three sister ships in 2024, 2025, and 2027. During the ceremony at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard, the name was announced, and construction started on the first of those sisters, MSC World America. The tournament starts on November 20, and the cruise ship will play host to visiting supporters as a floating hotel with two other MSC ships, MSC Poesia and MSC Opera. The attending officials from the cruise line and shipyard hailed the vessel’s state-of-the-art environmental measures that significantly reduce the impact the cruise ship will have on its surroundings.

The naming follows the ship first debuting in the UK earlier in 2021 and completing cruises in Europe. The Seaside EVO class is a subclass and evolution of the Seaside class. It includes two ships (MSC Seashore and MSC Seascape) that are about 17,000 gross tons larger than the original Seaside class ships (which are 153,516 gross tons each). The other two ships, MSC Virtuosa and MSC Euribia, debuted in 2021 and 2023, respectively.

This giant new Carnival ship isn't in operation yet, but it will be soon, and it'll be like nothing Carnival fans have ever seen. MSC Sinfonia entered service with MSC Cruises in March 2005; she originally debuted in 2002 as MS European Stars for the now-defunct line Festival Cruises. The vessel holds 2,087 guests based on double occupancy and comes in at 65,542 gross tons after an extensive renovation — including lengthening — in 2015. Sinfonia was the last ship built for Festival Cruises before it went bankrupt in 2004.

The cruise line recently announced that it will offer 98 hours of family-friendly live entertainment per cruise. This live entertainment will include new, interactive, family-centric game shows. Other standout features include a pool with a 360-degree water fountain and interior lounge space, and one of the largest and most luxurious MSC Yacht Clubs in the MSC Cruises fleet. Fun features include five pools, a large waterpark, the longest LED dome at sea in the promenade, and of course, all the other fun you’ve come to expect from MSC Cruises. Here are the MSC cruise ships by year built, starting with the newest ships first.
