Select the WeMo plug connected to the lamp you want to blink and select Continue. Follow the same procedure above to set this automation up. But this time make the command “blink bedroom light”.

Now my wemo won't even connect to google home, just throws errors. This happens if I try to link WeMo from inside the Google Home app, or inside the Google Assistant app. Same workflow, same error messages on iOS. Have uninstalled and reinstalled the apps numerous times, nothing is working. The google assistant prompt is 100% the issue!

Google home would not connect to WEMO devices even though the mini appeared to install correctly. Did the unlink, etc. nothing worked. What I found, using Fling, that an old network address for that mini was still active and the reinstalled mini never really connected to the network correctly. I deleted the network entry and reinstalled the mini, relinked wemo and everything worked. The Google Home / Google Assistant app will bring you to a page that will allow you to link your Google account and your Wemo account.

Another interesting thing you can do if you own a WeMo Insight plug is to trigger IFTTT automations based on the amount of time the switch has been turned on. You can set up an automation to log to a Google Sheets spreadsheet whenever the WeMo switch has been turned on too long. This is a good way to monitor if someone is leaving a light or some other device on longer than you want them to. The main benefit of using a hub is that it allows for more advanced control of the Wemo Light Switch.
